National River Cleanup Day

THE GREENWAY and NATURE CENTER of PUEBLO
Has joined a nationwide effort to keep America's waterways clean. Citizen volunteers will be cleaning 20 miles of Pueblo's Arkansas River Trail system on Saturday, May 21st 2005 in conjunction with the fourteenth annual National River Cleanup Week May 14 to 22, 2005.

We are asking for Puebloan's to show their PRIDE and volunteer. Help RECLAIM Pueblo's Arkansas River Trail System! We ask that volunteers wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, sturdy shoes, and bring work gloves if possible.

Bottled water, deet wipes, trash bags, and BBQ lunch afterward at the Greenway and Nature Center of Pueblo will be provide.

So make plans, bring your family, show your Pride in Pueblo !

Planting All Those Trees...

We had a great day planting Trees. Gary Lacey the designer of the white water course and his crew showed up with 70+ nursery trees to plant on our course. Thanks to many volunteers from the Pueblo Paddlers, Colorado Springs, and all the people who ran the equipment, without them we would have been still planting all those trees next week. Bob is still working with the little tractor somewhere down by Runyon Lake..

Bruce met the reaper today on the White Water Course. He did a great job on hole number 2 and the the reaper got him........keep up the good work.....HA HA HA

T-Shirt Design

The Legacy project logo designed by Bruce Hilvitz is proposed to be on the front of a white T-shirt and Boater in the Grim Reaper Hole design also by Bruce will be on the back. These will be for sale at the Grand opening event on Saturday May 7th

Planting Trees on the White Water Course

We will be planting Native trees in the White Water Course area this Saturday the 16th of April from 9am to 12 noon. Gary Lacey the course designer and his staff will be on hand to help with the project. We will meet Saturday morning in the pearl street parking lot. In order to plant the trees we need to cut them and prepare them for planting. We will be cutting them on Wednesday and Thursday the 13th and 14th of April around 5:00pm. Bob Walker (The Edge) 583-2021 will have all the datails on the cutting locations.

General Membership Meeting
We are planning to have a meeting every Tuesday Night until our Grand Opening May 7th. This weeks meeting will be Tuesday Night April 12th at the Cock and Bull(Union Ave Pueblo Colorado) Tavern Downstairs at 7:00pm.

1) CLEAN UP-This Saturday April 9th at 8am we will be cleaning up the area below Pearl St parking lot. Everyone is invited to help. Bring gloves and tools for trash pickup and weed removal..If weather permits we will be boating after.

2)PLANTING TREES AND SHRUBS- we hope to plant native trees and shrubs along the white water course according to Gary Lacey's design. This event is being planned for Saturday the 16th of April but the date is not firm. Scott Hobson (City of Pueblo) is confirming the date with Gary and his staff. Scott may need help in prepairing the plants for that day and we will keep everybody posted.

3)Volunteers are needed for many parts of the Grand Opening Event May 7th. Parking,Water Safety,Safety Boaters,Booth Manning, and many other positions. We are thinking of doing some kind of rotation throughout the day so no one person has to do the same thing all day. Contact Bob at the Edge 719-583-2021 to get your name on the list.
4)Building Dressing Room-We need to build a dressing room for the event and Mike Hammond has the plans for this in progress. Mike can be reached 719-251-2101
5)Forming 501c3-Anyone with information or ideas about our group incorporating as a non-profit organization should contact John Zupancic 719-248-7825 or Bob Walker 719-583-2021. Anyone thats wants to be include in this process needs to let us know.

On a real calm day you might be able to spot the Pueblo White Water Course Creature. Some say it is down stream from Grim Reaper. The photo shot yesterday by local pilot shows the creature stalking a local boater.

Colorado Springs Boaters Play

Colorado Springs boaters from the Pikes Peak Boating Club were out in force boating on the new course. The weather was great and so were some of the new boats they tried from Bob's shop.

Grand Opening White Water Park

The water park in Pueblo will have a grand opening on Saturday, May 7th 2005 from 10am-4pm. This is one of the earliest river festivals in Colorado at the newest water park near the 4th Street Bridge. Guaranteed 800 CFS through 8 drops. Boat reps from WaveSport, Liquid Logic, Pyranha, and Dagger will be providing boats for demos. Free raft rides for the family will be provided by Raft Masters.
